Our Story
How Ahl al-Khayr began — from a simple phone call to a growing community of consistent, collective giving.
Ahl al-Khayr was founded in January 2026 in a very simple way.
The idea began with a phone call between two brothers after Isha on a night in December 2025. During that conversation, one of the founders shared an idea — an idea born from a simple frustration.
Giving charity can sometimes feel difficult.
Often, we see incredible projects and causes around the world, but we may feel that our individual contribution is too small to make a meaningful difference. We may think that we need large amounts of money to create a large impact.
But what if we came together?
What if a group of people each gave just £5, or whatever they were able to give, and placed it into one collective pot? What if, together, they decided each month where that money could make the greatest difference?
That was the foundational idea behind Ahl al-Khayr.
Small contributions. Consistent giving. Collective impact.
After seeking advice and doing some work behind the scenes, a group of ten brothers came together at the beginning of 2026.
And so, Ahl al-Khayr began.
The First Month
Our first project was modest, but meaningful.
Together, the group raised and donated £95 towards feeding families in Gaza.
It was not millions.
It was not thousands.
But it was something.
And more importantly, it was the beginning of something.
Month by month, the community slowly began to grow. More people joined the journey, more ideas were shared, and more projects became possible.
Then came Ramadan.
A Ramadan of Giving
Ramadan 2026 became a particularly special period in the journey of Ahl al-Khayr.
Throughout the month, the community supported a project every single week, allowing members to experience different forms of charity and contribute towards causes across the world.
One of the most memorable projects was the construction of a water well in Sri Lanka.
What had begun only a few months earlier as a conversation after Isha had now grown into something capable of providing a source of water for people in need.
It was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people come together.
A small contribution from one person may seem insignificant. But when small contributions are combined, they can create something far greater.
Growing the Vision
As Ahl al-Khayr continued to grow, its founders began to see the potential of this community-led initiative.
The vision began to expand.
We wanted to create a space where more people could be part of the journey, not only brothers, but sisters too.
We wanted to build a platform where giving charity could be simple, accessible and meaningful.
And so, the next stage of the journey began.
- ✦ A website.
- ✦ New spaces for the community.
- ✦ New projects.
- ✦ And, insha’Allah, a future where Ahl al-Khayr can reach even more people and make an even greater impact.
Today, Ahl al-Khayr is still young.
We are still learning.
We are still growing.
And we are still at the very beginning of our journey.
But every great journey begins somewhere. Ours began with a simple phone call, an idea, and a small group of brothers willing to give what they could.
Our Inspiration
The foundation of Ahl al-Khayr can be found in the words of the Prophet ﷺ:
أَحَبُّ الأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَدْوَمُهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those which are done consistently, even if they are small.”
This simple but powerful teaching is at the heart of everything we hope to build.
You do not need to be wealthy to give.
You do not need to change the entire world overnight.
You simply need to do what you can and keep doing it.
£1. £5. £10.
A small contribution, given consistently and sincerely for the sake of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, can become part of something far greater than we could ever imagine.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple:
Make charity easy.
Make charity meaningful.
Make charity a part of our lives.
We want to create a community where giving is not something we only think about during Ramadan or in times of crisis.
We want charity to become a habit.
A lifestyle.
A source of goodness that continues throughout our lives, and, by the permission of Allah, beyond them.
Because sometimes, the smallest act of kindness can create an impact that lasts for generations.
- ✦ A well can provide water for years.
- ✦ A meal can feed a family.
- ✦ An education can change a life.
- ✦ And a single act of charity, sincerely given for the sake of Allah, may become a source of reward long after we have left this world.
Looking Forward
Ahl al-Khayr has big dreams.
We hope to support communities around the world.
We hope to fund meaningful and sustainable projects.
We hope to build a community of people who believe that they do not need great wealth to make a difference.
And, insha’Allah, we hope that one day Ahl al-Khayr can become one of the leading charitable organisations in the UK and beyond.
But we know that this journey cannot happen alone.
First and foremost, we rely upon Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
And then, through the support, generosity and duas of people like you, we hope to continue growing.
- ✦ Every donation.
- ✦ Every share.
- ✦ Every idea.
- ✦ Every dua.
- ✦ Every person who chooses to become part of this journey.
It all matters.
Ahl al-Khayr began with something small.
And perhaps that is exactly the point.
Because sometimes, something small, when done sincerely, consistently and together, can become something truly extraordinary.
